I graduated from Harlingen High School in 2005. I went on to attend University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. In December 2008, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Journalism with a focus in Advertising and Public Relations. Before I found my calling as a teacher, I worked in the field as a Advertising Account Executive for the Valley Morning Star.
I decided to get involved in the education because much of what I was doing in advertising was teaching and coaching clients about solutions. After making the transition out of the office and into a classroom, I taught at Harmony Science Academy from 2009-2012. I then deciced since reading and writing are a passion of mine, it seemed that I would be able to contribute best as a teacher of English Language Arts. I was hired at my alma mater, Memorial Middle School, in 2012 and I began teaching ELA and coaching Cross Country and Track.
In 2013, I was appointed C0-department chair of the ELA department along side Mrs. M. Sesler as well as being designated as a one of HCISD Digital Classroom Teachers 2.0. I am also a UIL coach for Solo and Duet Acting.
Teaching Philosophy
I firmly believe that students can achieve what they believe they can achieve. It takes one caring adult, who is willing to give them enough of a push to succeed. It is my goal to be a person that will help them reach their goals and make dreams a reality. Through the collaborative work of student, parent and teacher, nothing is impossible. As a reading teacher, it is my priority to see that student read at or above grade level and enjoy doing it! As a writing teacher, I want to foster the love and appreciation of the written word and how messages, stories and information can be communicated to a variety of audiences. I want to encourage and develop students into lifelong learners.
Family and Hobbies
I recently married my husband after being together for nearly 9 years. I do not have any children, however, I have 2 small terrier mixes, Leroy and Oreo, whom I consider my fur babies.
I spend much of my precious spare time reading or running. I am currerntly prepping group of 40 adults to complete the Harlingen Half Marathon. Long distance running and racing are some of my favorite things in the world.
